Not to mention that that movie spawned the worst line in any movie at any time. if i were jerry orbach's character in this movie, i would have beat the tar out of Patrick 'she's like the wind' Swayze and wiped the sweat from my brow with that black wife beater shirt he wore the whole darn time. a teen slut who bangs a dance instructor. So let's see, well, the dancing was bad, but at least the plot was weak as well. any of the moves they did could be learned in a week at any dance school in the country. This movie was a 90 minute root canal only with a lot more pain. And by far the worst dance movie EVER made. But, Lori Singer is hot, so i won't rip the movie any further. good god, i wanted to kick my own rear for watching that sequence. and how about the 'finished product' of the dance lessons that KB was giving Chris Penn's character. kevin bacon attempting to 'dance out the anger' in the headlights of his car at the feed-mill. Next, Footloose? When it came out, i thought those were the lamest dance sequences in the history of movies. I'll take Shrimp's street dance with the broom outside the store any day. Jennifer Beals is hot, so i won't rip it any further, although i will point out that part of her dance background in the movie is, in fact, breakdancing, which i found to be the only decent part of her final routine.

OK, a down to earth steel working girl who moonlights as a stripper trying to make it in the classical dance world. Lastly, look at all of the dance movies of the 80's in their respective dance genres. If any of you geniuses were alive back then, i'm sure you would have owned parachute pants, chuck taylors, penny loafers, wide belts, jelly bracelets, and leg warmers. That's it, what else did you expect? Second, it was 1984!!! of course the clothing was a tad out of style. The music and dancing (for the time) were cutting edge. It is a breakdancing movie, and a mighty fine one at that (i can't decide if this or Beat Street was better). If you wanted a riveting theatrical performance, perhaps you should try a movie called 'Actin''. OK, First, its a movie called 'Breakin''. Now i shall discuss why SOME PEOPLE (scroll down) are wrong about this movie. The all knowing movie rhino respects your right to think, but just because you think does not mean that you are right. I would rate this higher if the story line wasn't lacking just a little in a couple places, especially in the beginning.You are entitled to your opinion. There are some break/hip hop dancers that have supporting roles that are also well worth watching.

For anyone that enjoys gifted and special break dancers, this is not to be missed. So rare to be at that high of a level at both disciplines. And with all that, he is a very, very good actor. He has his own language and it is quite special. I have never seen someone move like that and I have seen a plethora of dancers of all styles. There is a scene where he is dancing on his own and IT IS RIVETING. What a nice surprise! The male lead, Keven Mischel is absolutely exceptional. Had no idea she was a dancer! She is adorable and hilarious in the Hookup Plan, so I figured there was nothing to lose by checking this movie out.

I recognized the female lead, Sabrina Ouazani from a cute French Series called the Hookup Plan. So many dancers of this caliber have trouble being believable as straight actors, but they are the exception. What is extremely rare is that their acting and dancing stand on their own. I wish more American dance movies had the realism Break has. Unlike many dance focused movies, this was complete with excellent dancing, believable acting, and good character development.
